What ages do you teach?

All ages — from preschoolers (3–5) through school-age children and teenagers to adults. Many students start as complete beginners; lessons begin from wherever you are and build at a pace that suits you.

Are lessons one-on-one or in a group?

Every lesson is individual, one-on-one tuition, so the teaching is tailored to each student’s age, level, goals and learning style.

How much do lessons cost, and how does billing work?

Fees depend on lesson length (30, 45 or 60 minutes) and whether the time is peak or non-peak, starting from $160 per month for a 30-minute non-peak lesson. Fees are charged monthly by direct debit, due at the start of each month. The fees page lists every option.

When can we start, and how do I enrol?

Enquiries are welcome any time. After you get in touch we’ll talk through the student’s interests and needs, check available times, and match you with a teacher. Students usually begin at the start of the next school term. Lessons follow the Victorian school-term calendar, with a minimum commitment of one term.

Do we need a piano at home?

Yes. Students provide their own instrument (unless otherwise arranged) and are expected to practise between lessons, so you’ll need access to a piano or keyboard at home to practise on.

What if we miss a lesson or go on holiday?

Accepted Answer

Let your teacher know as early as you can if a lesson can’t go ahead. Make-up lessons may be offered at the teacher’s discretion. Fees aren’t refunded for student absences, and monthly fees already allow for public holidays, when no lessons are held.

What if we want to stop lessons?

There’s a minimum commitment of one school term. After that you can withdraw at any time by giving one month’s notice in writing.

Question 8

Do you prepare students for exams?

Yes. Our teachers prepare students for AMEB, ANZCA and ABRSM piano exams, from beginner grades through to diploma level, as well as VCE. Exams are entirely optional, though — many students simply learn for the joy of playing.

Where are you, and is parking easy?

Our studios are on Gilbert Road in Preston, Melbourne. We’re easy to reach by tram (Route 11 stops at our door) or by car, with on-street parking nearby. Family and friends are welcome to wait in our comfortable waiting areas.
